Forest ReLeaf of Missouri 2022 Summer Internships 
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, located in St. Louis, is seeking an intern for the summer of 2022. This summer position will report to both our CommuniTree Gardens Nursery, located in Creve Coeur Park in Maryland Heights, MO as well as our office at 4168 Juniata St., St. Louis, MO. 

Full-time, 40-hour/week position with Saturday work likely 
Preferred start date: June 1 
Hourly pay rate: $14/hour 

The Forest ReLeaf Internship will provide a diverse learning environment focused on hands-on experience and exposure to industry professionals. 

  • This is a minimum 10-week, full-time internship (~June 1 – August 6).
  • Depending on the applicant’s needs, the primary reporting location may be at Forest ReLeaf’s office in St. Louis City or at the Nursery in Maryland Heights. 
  • Candidate will be expected to work in tandem with another staff member to water, mulch, and prune previously planted trees. Some independent work may be required.
  • Additional responsibilities may include working in the organization’s community-assisted tree nursery located adjacent to St. Louis County’s Creve Coeur Park. The intern will work directly with our foresters and volunteers in all phases of containerized nursery production (weed and pest control, irrigation maintenance, planting, pruning, mulching, etc.). 
  • The intern will assist with developing and delivering the organization’s various outreach activities including Summer Tree Camp, community volunteer work days, and nursery events. 
  • Candidate may have an option to maintain part-time work through Fall 2021. 

Successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • Have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. 
  • Provide for personal transportation to and from the office and the nursery. ● Work occasional weekends. 
  • Coordinate his/her own college credit details. 
  • Use personal smartphone for inventory projects with Collector app

Forest ReLeaf of Missouri 2022 Summer Canopy Crew 
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and STL Youth Jobs, is seeking a diverse group of 5 youth to be part of our Canopy Crew. This summer position will work in the field 5 days/week, 5.5 hours/day for 6 weeks. The Canopy Crew will focus work in the Normandy School District footprint but also visit the Forest ReLeaf nursery located in Creve Coeur Park, as well as take field trips to other area businesses related to the green industry. Transportation from a designated location in the Normandy School District will be provided. 

Part-time, 27.5 hours/week for 5 days each week (Mon – Fri), except 1st week (Tues – Fri) Dates: June 21 – July 29 Hourly pay rate: $12/hour + incentives 

Canopy Crew members will be required to apply through STL Youth jobs and to participate in approximately eight hours of job readiness and financial literacy training prior to the start date. 

The Canopy Crew’s main role will be to grow their understanding of the value and benefit of trees and share it with others. This work is vital to a forestry program called Treesilience. Treesilience is an equitable and proactive approach to urban forestry. It looks at the overall tree canopy in an area and provides free or reduced tree removal services, pruning services, tree health monitoring and tree planting within the Normandy School District footprint. Community outreach and education are necessary to reach its goals. The 2022 Canopy Crew will: 

  • Be walking neighborhoods to collect tree health data using a USDA Forest Service app on tablet computers (provided); 
  • Be trained to use the tree health monitoring app; 
  • Inform neighbors about the Treesilience program by providing them with educational materials through door-knocking and events; 
  • Work hands-on with trees; 
  • Learn tree biology, tree identification, and tree care from professionals in the field;
  • Participate in field trips to learn about potential career paths within the green industry and related fields; 
  • Cross-train with other youth crews in the green industry to increase networking;
  • Have an option to join our Fall Tree Stewardship program that will offer further in-depth training on handling trees including tree plantings and time with Davey Tree Co professionals for tree removals. 

Successful candidates: 

  • Must be between the ages of 16–24 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions, including inclement weather
  • Will be comfortable knocking on doors and communicating with the general public ● Must be able to arrive at pick up site on time 
  • Must be team players 
  • Will have ethical and responsible conduct on and off the job site 
  • Are ideally located in or familiar with the Normandy School District

Forest ReLeaf of Missouri 2022 Summer Canopy Crew Lead
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri is seeking an energetic individual to lead our Canopy Crew of 5 young adults. This summer position will work in the field 5 days/week, 5.5 hours/day for 6 weeks with the youth and then fulfill the rest of their hours in our Forest ReLeaf office located in South City. The Canopy Crew’s work will be focused in the Normandy School District footprint, but visits to the Forest ReLeaf nursery located in Creve Coeur Park, as well as field trips to other area businesses related to the green industry will be taken. The lead will be in charge of driving
the entire crew from a designated location in the Normandy School District to field sites each day.

Full-time, 40 hours/week
Dates: June 6 – August 5
Hourly pay rate: $16.50/hour

The main role of the Canopy Crew Lead is to oversee the youth and ensure they have a successful summer program. The youth’s main role will be to grow their understanding of the value and benefit of trees and share that knowledge with others. This work is vital to a forestry program called Treesilience. Treesilience is an equitable and proactive approach to urban forestry. It looks at the overall tree canopy in an area and provides free or reduced tree removal services, pruning services, tree health monitoring and tree planting within the Normandy School
District footprint. Community outreach and education are necessary to reach its goals. The 2022 Canopy Crew Lead will:
● Create a productive, safe, educational, and fun experience for the participating Canopy
Crew members;
● Be walking neighborhoods with the youth to collect tree health data using a USDA Forest Service app on tablet computers (provided);
● Be trained to use the tree health monitoring app, and then in turn, will train the youth;
● Help the youth to canvass successfully about the Treesilience program, by providing guidance on their pitch and directing them to get answers when questions arise;
● Help to ensure a safe environment for the youth through a buddy system;
● Help to ensure the integrity of the data collection process;
● Be in charge of transferring collected data into additional databases;
● Work hands-on with trees alongside the youth;
● Learn tree biology, tree identification, and tree care from professionals in the field;
● Chaperone field trips that the youth participate in to learn about potential career paths within the green industry and related fields;
● Have the possibility of overseeing our Fall Tree Stewardship program that will offer further in-depth training on handling trees including tree plantings and time with Davey Tree Co professionals for tree removals.

Successful candidates:
● Must be comfortable leading and working with up to 5 young adults, ages 16-24
● Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and confident driving a van
● Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions, including inclement weather
● Will be comfortable canvassing
● Must be organized and punctual
● Will have ethical and responsible conduct on and off the job site
